PROFILE OF THE MONTH

Peta Palmer

Q..1..How long have you been involved with horses, how long doing the ultimate sport of Peta Adams 1"Eventing"?

mmm.......I think I was about 6 when I started nagging mum to sit on pretty much any horse I saw.  I finally got my first proper lesson as a 7th birthday present so I've been involved with horses for about 13 years.  Have done a bit of Pony Club Eventing over the past 3/4 years but have only started getting more serious about it in the last year.

Q..2..Who or what has influenced you along the way, for your riding?

All the ponies and horses I've had and ever ridden and their different personalities would be my biggest influence.  Just learning to read them and know their quirks the best you can.  Also my Mum who's not that horsey but always encouraged me when I was little, and Julie now, who takes me everywhere as part of the family, otherwise I wouldn't get to very much.

Q..3..So tell me, how are you going to fund your expensive sport, once you have been kicked out of home?

Well firstly I'll marry a Trillionaire who only wants a trophy wife to hang off his arm at parties..............haha in my dreams!!  I have a pretty cool Boss where I work already, so I'll stay there as long as possible. After that, keep working, learn to budget better and not buy more horse gear than I could ever possibly need or use!

Q..4..What are your aims/goals for 2009?

Ultimate goal is top 3 at Pony Club state ODE, Dressage and Combined Training on Cay. But main aim is improve as much as possible and correct my bad habits when I'm riding NO EXCUSES.  Definitely get Cay and Emma to more EFA Eventing comps.  Champion ridden Thoroughbred at Toowoomba royal, so close last year - can I say that????  I guess I'll have to aim to find a spare weekend to watch Eny too!

Q..5..What vital tips have you taken on board from Rebels Lessons?

Heaps and heaps.  Don't hang on my left rein or cross the right one over the wither.

Leg on when Cay is getting tense and not to worry about his neck until he's relaxed.

Shoulders back in leg yield and look where I'm going.

I should jump, Hacking isn't in the Olympics.

Bad steering on my behalf in corners which makes Cay shoot out of them-I feel like that's getting a lot better.

My seat in canter strike off's.

Cross Country lessons in general, feel soooo much more confidant after them.
